Posted: 29th June 2006: Telcora on Telecoms Fraud Africa
“Simply excellent…” one of the delegates commented in the presentation of Telcora on the recently concluded Telecoms Fraud Africa conference held in Johannesburg, South Africa last 29th of May to 1st of June. Steve Ormesher, Director of Telcora, presented possible threats and different strategies for combating prepaid fraud during the conference and post-conference workshop with positive feedbacks such as:
Very practical session which brought up interesting notes that are overlooked when finding a manufacturer and also within the organisation.
Steve’s presentations are always interesting, thought provoking and fun. Everyone walked away with increased awareness about prepaid fraud.
I consider Steve’s presentation very detailed, and brilliant. His delivery is great, humorous and extremely engaging. His knowledge of the subject is deep, and coupled with the hands-on experience, he was able to make the session very enjoyable. I would recommend his session for a long time.
After acquiring the very hard information, it would be prudent to undergo training under Telcora so as to fully develop strategies for combating prepaid fraud.
Steve, as always, presented very useful and relevant material, which opened my eyes to the scale of possible threats to prepaid. I now feel fairly confident that the risk on prepaid vouchers can be minimised by putting in place control measures that I’d previously overlooked.
I am better equipped to oversee the proper set-up of the Fraud Unit in my organisation and to better identify the risks that my organisation may be facing.

The most popular service through our bureau is that of interconnect analysis to identify bypass fraud, ISR (International Simple Resale) and other revenue losses. We are identifying significant losses for our customers in their interconnect data. Some of the these losses are down to fraud and many are also due to incorrect network configurations. Unlike some analysis services, we identify the individual accounts responsible for fraud."
